I would like to thank Hambly & Hambly for the opportunity to be part of the John Richardson French Residency Award.

This residency brings together a small group of artists in France for a period of focused making and exchange. It is not simply about producing work, but about testing ideas in conversation with others, including painter Eamon Colman, whose involvement adds a considered and critical dimension to the dialogue.

What interests me most is that space between making and thinking. Not quite studio, not quite discussion, but something in between. It is often in that unresolved territory that the work begins to shift, and where new directions quietly take hold.

For me, this sits in direct alignment with my current practice. The movement from image to object, from tableau to environment, and from observation to lived experience. A residency like this creates the conditions to push that further, without the usual pressures of outcome or resolution.

Grateful to be part of it, and looking forward to the conversations, the friction, and what emerges from it.
