My role at RMIT (Photography) is the Client Centred lead, I usually get called 'the commercial guy' or 'the industry guy' , happy with either actually. It makes sense I look after the classes that relate to commercial photography and our industry, and the students who want to be working photographers (I actually names a course that; The Working Photographer). @the_working_photographer
Yesterday we had wonderful presentation by IMAA (Image Makers Association Australia), to RMIT BA Photography students. The talk discussed the importance of a strong peak body to support the photo industry and photographers, from the perspective of three influential Australian photographers, Shannon McGrath, Lynton Crabb & Kristoffer Paulsen.
I remember back when the then peak body for commercial photographers, the ACMP lobbied government and successfully had laws changed, photographers finally owned the copyright to the images they made! It would have never happened without a group of dedicated photographers banding together and being supported the industry. The ACMP is long gone, as is the AIPP, it looks very much like the IMAA is shaping up to be that body we need now. Image Makers Association Australia (IMAA), a rapidly growing commercial photography industry body committed to advocacy and education, has hit the ground running by lobbying the government on copyright, while also forging several key affiliations.
