Even the creators of AI can't fully understand how it thinks - and that's exactly why I find it fascinating as an artistic collaborator.

I recently came across a thought-provoking article in China Daily titled "Inner workings of AI an enigma even to its creators." The piece explores how even the brightest minds developing AI technology—from Google DeepMind to Anthropic—openly admit they don't fully comprehend the "digital minds" they're creating. This paradox of creating something we can't entirely understand strikes me as both humbling and profoundly important for anyone working in this space.

The article highlighted something both thrilling and slightly unsettling: "Grasping the entirety of a large language model is an incredibly ambitious task." As Neel Nanda from Google DeepMind points out, it's as complex as understanding the human brain.

The Terminator franchise played into our deepest fears about AI destroying humanity. But here's my take - I've always preferred collaborating with minds smarter than my own. It pushes me to learn, to grow, to see things differently. I don't fully understand the neural pathways of my human collaborators either, yet together we create meaningful work.
In my Origin Image methodology, this "digital mind" becomes a co-creator, introducing unpredictability and spontaneity similar to natural systems. It's not about using AI as a mere tool - it's about embracing the creative dialogue between human and machine intelligence.

As Dario Amodei notes in the article, "We deserve to understand our own creations before they transform our economy, our lives, and our future." From my current work at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel residency, I'm not just observing this transformation - I'm actively exploring how these mysterious digital minds can push creative boundaries.

What's your take on embracing the unknown in creative collaboration?
